Training initially in textiles, Lisa James has worked extensively in the fashion and design industry. She has seen it evolve from a time of the artisan working by hand through to the arrival of digital technology.
Graduating with a BA from Loughborough and a MA from Manchester, Lisa moved into the commercial world working first for Zandra Rhodes and then independently, gaining experience in textiles, packaging design and branding. Eventually, Lisa sought to extend her experience of design and moved to New York where she worked in the fashion industry, ultimately as the art director for a leading fashion and textile studio.
After five years, the lure of home proved too strong. Lisa returned to London to set up her own textile studio, which was rapidly established as a leader in the industry with a deserved reputation for innovative design.
2009 saw Lisa embark on a new direction. She took time away returning with a renewed desire to explore her passion for colour, line and texture in a much more personal way. Lisa now works in mixed media producing limited edition prints and designs. While her recent work has focused on digital art, Lisa always seeks to remain loyal to her artisanal skills in embroidery and painting. Her influences are diverse and include geometric abstraction, history and nature.
Lisa’s studio is at Chocolate Factory 1 in North London. She regularly exhibits her work and is represented by Gas Art. Commissions are gladly undertaken. Please email with any enquiries.
