Paul Berry

Throughout his time as a practising artist he has been involved in an experimental, conceptual approach to his work. From an early stage he adopted different modes of production as appropriate to his ideas.  This led to his making installations, performances, 3D constructions, word pieces, photographic pieces, paintings, drawings and prints. The artist likes to work on a number of projects that are developed concurrently. While the ideas may have some underlying connections they often use different mediums and processes. This reflects the artist’s interest in exploring both traditional artforms and new technologies and materials.

He has had a life long interest in serialism, systems, geometry, symmetry and aleatoric processes. More recent work has continued in the experimental vein of exploring ideas without any recourse to the development of a personal style or language nor any particular medium or technique. In some cases the work represents a journey of visual exploration into the potential of a simple concept. In others the work is the outcome of putting into practice a set of rules or processes predetermined prior to commencing the piece. The computer and digital processing methods have prompted new ways of working and production processes.

Paul Berry graduated in Fine Art from Chelsea School of Art with a first class honours degree and MA. He also did a Fellowship in Fine Art at Cardiff College of Art. Many years were spent in Art Education and a special interest in drawing and visual studies developed. He has shown work in a number of cities in the UK, Germany, France and Australia.
